Tomari Ryūgū-jin Tomari Ryūgū-jin is a small sacred monument located near Tomari Port in Naha, Okinawa. During the Ryukyu Kingdom era, Tomari Port was one of the largest ports in Okinawa and served as an important base for fishermen and maritime trade. Local fishermen established this monument to worship Ryūgū-jin, the sea deity, praying for safe voyages and abundant catches. In Okinawan belief, “Ryūgū” represents the mythical palace of the sea god beyond the ocean. Even today, local residents and fishermen continue to respect this site, reflecting Okinawa’s strong connection with the sea and its traditional fishing culture.
